Paras and it's evolution Parasect are not native to the islands of Alola. They were introduced by the people of Azalea Town, Johto to be bred for their Tochukaso. Tochukaso is an endoparasitoid fungus that replaces the host tissue which is used as treatment for ailments.
Migrating Morelulls were passing through one of the breeding farms only to get attacked by the Tochukaso infected Paras and Parasect. The Morelulls had no choice. They released their spores into the air. And one by one, the infected Paras and Parasect dropped giving into slumber. The awoken Paras and Parasect had a new host.
