They certainly aren't "unviable." Just inefficient.
Imagine if you will, a life-orb. It raises the BP of any move by 30%. Now imagine, flame thrower, t-bolt, and ice beam all sitting at 90 BP.
Well 90 x 1.3 = 117. That's the new "effective" BP of those moves.
You sacrifice roughly 3 BP, as well as 10% health, but what you gain is your other three moves also befitting from that 30% boost in damage. You could have 1 good hitting move with a drive, or 4 good hitting moves with a life orb.
Or you could turn it into one of the best legendary pivot/revenge killer mons in the game with a scarf and u-turn. Can even run a good mixed set if you fuck around with the ev's.
