I think it was. Good rivales, great league, best battle, team galactic was decent enough.
Dawn and Ash actually got nice mons with personality. Maybe they weren't the strongest but they were full of fighting spirit.

Because Paul's plan was to let Ash win until close to the end when he would sweep out Ash's worn out team with his two powerhouses. He didn't count for Infernape activating it's Blaze. He could've easily crushed Ash if he wanted to but for some reason he decided to play around with him but got burnt instead.
