I mean really "fucking terrible"?
Assuming it's even a stilt owl, or a fucking dodo or any other extinct animal, gamefreak can type it anything from ghost to ground and extinction would still be a fine "justification" because the typing and the inspiration, while related, aren't fucking binding and you know that.
So what if this is the first? did you lose your shit when water type wasn't slapped on Stunfisk? Or when Lurantis wasn't a bug type? When Lucario was steel type?
TLDR
An inspiration doesn't come fucking packaged with a typing, its just somewhat indicative of the design idea.
