If you could only have one and had to erase the other from the franchise, would you keep mega evolution or regional variants?
For me, regional variants is the easy answer. Megas could have been cool but they mostly ended up as pandering to popular mons aside from a few. And just as a personal issue, regional variants make the game's universe feel larger and more alive, while megas are just...powered up pokemon through magic.
