People who liked Braixen's cute direction were turned off by how Delphox turned out, and so, for them, the line was ruined.
People who are turned off by Poképhiliacs and waifumons got repulsed by Braixen and its fanbase, while a less cutesy midevo would have allowed them to view Delphox as more wizard than witch.
People who like Delphox's design get frustrated with how much they get lumped into the "waifu" category because of Braixen, as well as by how much more official attention Braixen gets as the "cute girl" of the generation.
For a large number of people Braixen either created false expectations, took the line's design in an unwanted direction, or unfairly overshadows its final evolution. It ruins the line not by being BAD, but by being too polarizing.
