I really don't get it. Why does Game Freak put so much focus on playing with friends if they don't feel like doing balance patches?

Because they're trying to cater to everybody.

But in all seriousness, they tried to balance out some old-mons by giving them a 10-Point BST increase, with Pikachu getting 20.
They may add more updates in this gen.
