So we're probably not gonna have immediate access to HAs just yet, but do any of them look fit to make the new pokemon better/worth using? Specifically I'd like to know if Lurantis is getting something better than Leaf Guard.

They just couldn't bother to give it Chlorophyll, now could they ? It's gonna be fun to use it as a mixed attacker under Trick Room, but still it would have worked far better thematically.

Also, Toucannon should have gotten Contrary, imagine Contrary Oveaheat + Hyper Voice and Air Slash.

His so close to being good, but he falls just short - but he falls hard.

95/90/90 defenses are actually decent, and with Intimidate it's actually good. Bulk Up and Leech Life make everything really good - Fire/Dark/Bug have decent coverage, and Leech Life of course acts like a different Drain Punch.

The problem is his typing.

Fire/Dark is weak to 3 out of 5 of the most common attacking types (Fighting, Ground, Rock), and he's still weak to the ubiquitous Water type as well.

It really sucks actually, cause if they had traded just a bit more Spd for Sp. D, it could actually have been great. Instead he's going to be stuck in RU for a long time.

Not only that, but it doesn't look like it gets any synergetic moves like Serperior does with Leaf Storm, so it's all about hoping that your enemy is dumb enough to be baited into buffing it.
well, I suppose at the very least it means I won't have to worry about breeding an HA when I do work on Lurantis. But damn.

Fire/Dark/Bug isn't very good. Honestly it's hard to fit Leech Life in because Cross Chop or Earthquake are generally better. But the rock weakness sucks, it doesn't have reliable recovery. Because of all the weaknesses, it doesn't like switching into a lot of physical attackers, not even other fire types.

Fire/Dark/Bug is fine - it hits 2/5ths the game for SE, and is resisted by only 9 pokes (most of which are Fighting type which you have ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to stay in on). I mean it's not great, but it's a small price to pay for Healing off a 80 BP Bug attack.

Everything else you said yeah though - it just can't stay in at all.

It makes all Sound-Based moves Water Type.

It does NOT grant a 30% increase in BP like all the other -ate/ize abilities do.

Primarina's strongest Sound Move is Hyper Voice. After Liquid Voice, it is literally just Surf but with less PP.

The ONLY use it gets is to hit pass Substitutes, and then to get subsequently blocked by Pokemon that use Sound Proof or to be rendered completely useless by a Pokemon that uses Throat Chop.

Thing is it's mostly carried by Fire/Dark. Bug barely contributes to the overall coverage. Replace Bug with Fighting and you hit so much more. Same deal with ground. I know people want to use Leech Life but I doubt it'll be very good on this guy.

You definitely do get more coverage out of Fighting, but Leech Life would work extremely well with those defenses + intimidate. There'd be no reason to run Luchalitten if you're running Fire/Dark/Fighting, as Emboar just does it so much better. A bulky tank with those stats and decent movepool is pretty good - the only thing that really lets him down is his typing, and it is a piss poor defensive typing.
