Honestly it didn't bother me years ago.
I even made female characters on some games and I still play females on gender locker mmo's.
That being said I have a friend who exclusively plays female characters and it somewhere deep down pisses me off every time I see him ingame. He even has this female name picked out that he always uses.
TL;DR just play a fucking male character if you're a guy and your friends won't want to kill themselves when they see you.

Both have plenty of clothes but just like any other game, boys have more "samey" clothing. Girl feels that have much more variety for that reason.

Though I usually play a guy in first run as it help with immersion. Also male playable rival(Brendan,Calem) are awkward as hell when they lose to you to the point I feel bad for them. Only run I finished 1st time as a girl is BW2 as I hate Nate and I ship HughxRosa. Hugh is also a cool male rival as he had his clear goal that didn't overlap with yours, so you don't feel like you extinguished his dream when you beat him. He actually EAGER to be your personal punching bag if it help making you stronger.
