i'm talking about translations, i can imagine having to remember two names for 800 pokemons would be a pain in the ass.

"Counter" is called "Contador" instead of contra-ataque or something like that. "Contador" means "Counter" in the sense of the machine that counts your water or electricity usage for billing. A lot of moves from gen I and gen II suffer from this, I guess that back when pokemon was new there weren't many competent game translators in Spain, it got better and newer generations don''t have that sort of glaring translation mistakes, but it bothers me that they never bothered changing the old flawed names, i wonder if they do it for the sake of consistency for older fans or something.

Well, the english language versions did change Faint Attack to Feint Attack so hopefully they'll do the same for the Spanish translation at some point.

I played ORAS for the first time in French, since I was learning French in preparation for a trip to Paris. Honestly, the Pokemon games are really good practice for playing in other languages - easy to gather what unfamiliar words mean thorugh context, and you odn't lose too much if you can't fully understand something. I should try this more often and play in other languages, after first learning the basics of said language of course.

And finding what their pun names are is great too, I remember chuckling at a few of the French names in my playthrough.

Italians haven't names because Mediaset aired anime before nintendo ever wanted to translate games in italian. In fact italian anime in the firsts seasons uses english names also for towns, it was retconed in games and in redubs. For Pokémons they used english names for this reason
