At this point, I've just resigned myself to breeding previous gen pokemon in Y or Alpha Sapphire, then sending them over via PokeBank in January. That'll leave the tedium of EV training in SM to 7th gen pokemon, and prior gen ones that get new egg moves.

You can't use non-Alola caught/bred Pokemon in rated battle spot. You'll only be able to fight the little kids with full legendary teams in Free Battle.
