old pokemon games had mystery and character, when you try and make them look 'real' by blowing them up and zooming in and giving everything life like proportions and stuff the vision of the pokemon world you had in your head isn't closer to being realized, rather things just get awkward and more strange, because you're actually reducing the imagination aspect and getting one person's perception obnoxiously thrown in your face. it's very off-putting

I don't exactly miss the old pokemon in and of itself. I miss the stage of my life when I played them though. I wish I had realized back then that what I truly enjoyed in life was playing weeaboo rpgs, maybe I could have competed in tournaments or become a poketuber or some other way to make it part of my life. Instead I spent years futilely trying to outgrow Pokemon, only to end up playing again whenever a new game was released.

I think 3d battles were an indisputable improvement. There's a reason there's always been a 3d pokemon battle game for the home consoles before the 3d transition. 3d overworld, on the other hand, was a mistake. I wish they had kept the HGSS artstyle for the overworld. Refined it, made technical changes to make it faster, but kept it on those lines.

Black/White/2 are still the best looking games in the series. I think Pokemon on the Switch will look pretty good if they focus more on performance and choose a less saturated color palette.

I had found a game on the 3ds that made me feel much like I felt while playing pokemon as a kid. A game that just exuded charm, had a god-tier OST and had the best waifus. Sure, it was generic as hell, but it was pure comfyness. Then I found out that the developer had went bankrupt before the game even released, it was their swan song and it will never, ever have a sequel. Fuck my life.

XY should be Gen 5, or BW should have been 3DS games.

The graphics are so bad in BW that Gen 4 graphics look better.

There's no reason the sprites should be so jagged in BW. It looks even worse while the sprites are wiggling back and forth.

Gen 4 is good, but I'm not a fan of how bad certain things are, like how big your head is and how small (compared to your head) other things are.

Gen 3 is just right. Smooth/clean graphics, nothing jagged, no framerate problems, vibrant color, etc.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep going back to Emerald but I think this is a big part of it. It's just so easy on the eyes.

The 3D Pokemon models in particular feel really bland to me.

I didn't whine.

Also, playing it like that is considered normal. Most people beat the gyms, take on the Elite Four, then do it over again with another team.

Sorry for not maxing out my hours played by trying hatching eggs for 16 hours and still not achieving the desired results.

Also, people who leave the house tend to have friends and get laid. You should try it sometime.

Fair point, I can see that if you prefer sprites to 3D. I'm not sure about having 3D battles with 2D gameplay though, Digimon World 3 went with that and it kind of...clashed I guess, seemed like too big of a difference in styles.

Playing the TCG certainly helped me realize that sitting around all day looking for a shiny perfect IV, perfect nature Kangaskhan is pretty fucking gay.

With the TCG, you actually get to hang out with real people (talking to faceless usernames online doesn't count) who like the same thing as you, and you actually achieve something by playing matches.

As said, FRLG was alright, but Yellow, Gen II, and Gen IV minus DP's battle sprites all definitely looked better for sprite based games.

Then go play the old ones. I've been playing since gen 3 in 2003 and think SM are the best games yet. Yeah I admit it hasn't been constant improvement, XY were pretty shitty in a lot of aspects, but overall things have gotten generally better and SM are great entries.
