What the fuck kind of artistic unity does "tons of random, non-uniform spikes and blades" have? There's pointed spikes, curved spikes, a mace tail, axe-blades jutting out on its sides, etc. . . it's just a mess.
And if being an utter mess was the design approach, that's fine, but it's not one that I personally support-- just doesn't look good, in my personal opinion. You're definitely right though.
