XY had:

>New areas to explore like Kiloude City and Terminus Cave
>Ability to catch Pokemon outside the regional dex in the Friend Safari
>Catching Legendary Pokemon like Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Zygarde
>Sundial sidequest where you explore Kalos to find Megastones
>Looker sidequest with a well written story
>E4 rematches have higher levels in XY unlike SM where their levels stay the same
Meanwhile all SM has for a postgame is the Battle Tree on an island that you already visited
