I just threw my Master Ball on it after I ran out of balls. I was afraid of GF pulling a dick move and making it stay dead forever.

Yes, Running from battle gives you additional dialogue even. Then you can go back and refight Koko as soon as the credits have rolled.

I think they at least made his capture rate high to make up for it. I had him only at yellow health and it took me about 4 ultra balls. Wasn't too bad.

But yeah, it was a dick move by the designers.
