I've never once seen FRLG considered as part of the holy trinity. The real holy trinity is:

>BW2
>HGSS
>Platinum

Emerald and BW are objectively high tier as well. In response to your question OP, the 3D games have their bumps but are still great games all around, perhaps barring ORAS

Because the 3D games use a font very close to the 3DS system font and as a result the game feels like it's instructing you through a piece of 3DS software rather than inviting you into a unique world.

Never underestimate the power of the font change in X/Y onwards, it's all too often overlooked.

I like Gen 5 overall better than Gen 4; I just know that denying those 3 games as the trinity is incorrent

It was slower than molasses on a cold winter night. The only reason you remember it so fondly is because how shit DiaPear were. Platinum was comfy and had great aesthetics, sure. But come on, it was the game we should have gotten out of the gate.
