I also get triggered by it because I feel like a retard typing out "SuMo" or "Su/Mo", since you have to dance with the fucking shift key and especially when the latter is only three characters shorter than a full "Sun/Moon". If you're going to try and make something shorter and simpler to type, then SM is what you're looking for in this case.

Yes, I feel secondhand embarrassment for whoever came up with the idea and everyone who actually supports an abbreviation that barely even shortens the fucking term in question. S already stands for Sapphire. If you're running a database site that uses initials to describe where things are found, which will include things exclusive to Sun version by itself, you can't just use S or you are referring to a different game, just like Platinum-exclusive things can't just be labeled as P. Pretty simple reason.
