You'd have to have the camera farther away if it was the same size as in coliseum.

And on the 3ds' small, low-res screen, this means that you wouldn't be able to see any of the other Pokemon battling.

Sun and Moon are shit in a lot of ways, but this is understandable imo.

Finally they decided that a similar concept was already used by Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza. So they only kept the red sun and added the blue moon, because it fitted very well.

Yes because they never really utilized those in the first place. The second screen? a glorified inventory screen or map screen. can be easily reintegrated back to the main screen. voice? microphone? Same deal. no one ever actually used them. Games were a success on a ds and a 3ds despite the gimmicks not because of them. and they have a new gimmick with the removable controller dongles.

As to your second point, given the fact that AAA games are now going up to 80 bucks, 60 is the new 40 for handheld games. Also, having a digital store now allows them to be more robust in pricing. indie games and niche games can charge whatever they want digitally.

Nintendo ain't throwing away their handheld line. If anything its the opposite and they're throwing away their console line and forcing all their console devs to move to a handheld device.

I can see several reasons why they are doing this.
1) They want Switch to sell well during its first year and don't want to wait for their cashcow franchise to pop up too late;
2) GameFreak needs to learn how to make HD games. It's better for them to fuck up this one than having severe technical difficulties during Gen 8 that might delay the game.
