>>30091164I find shift makes the game more tolerable. If it were an isolated, 1-on-1, "set" makes it fair, I agree, but the fact that you are doing battle after battle, shift gives you a a bit of an edge, and a change to let your type advantages pay off a bit more.
Not that it really matters, though. Most trainers only have one Pokemon, so it's more about having a lead with good coverage.
Besides, everyone is overlooking the fact that the Pokemon battles themselves aren't what is "easy" about this game. As long as you have basic team-building skills, every Pokemon game is easy. It's the fact that the game leads you along through everything, and practically forces you down the right paths whether you like it or not. Remember old Pokemon games where you were out on your own and had to make choices for yourself? Forget that. Now the Professor and your friendly rival tag along the whole way and heal your Pokemon before politely asking to battle every now and again. There is no sense of accomplishment.
