Bad rivals

Let's not beat around the bush here, the trend of bad rivals started with this guy.

This doesn't make him an engaging rival it just makes him look like a moron who no one can talk seriously.

I honestly thought of him as a sore loser, like Blue was. Rivals need a good intention other than "I wanna beat my friend" or "this guy is an idiot" to be a rival. I still don't know what Silver was trying to accomplish, but it was clear that Wally, Brendan, and Barry had an intention other than getting to the Pokemon league.

The only thing inexcusable is a friend-rival. The rival being someone you hate was a more critically important part of the Pokemon formula than Professor Fucking Oak but they decided it wasn't somehow.

Silver wanted power.
He was pretty much neglected as a child because his parents are Team Rocket, so now he feels he'll need power to make up for his age-old weaknss.

Blue talked big despite getting his assignments kicked constantly but at least he was always ahead of you and became champion first

Plus Blue was a legit rival, antagonistic towards you but still somewhat friendly and just wanting to compete. Silver felt more like a straight up enemy until the very end. Hell, N was more of an actual rival than Silver

Why don't they make a friendly person, who as the game goes on becomes your unfriendly rival? Like someone who goes down another path and even becomes part of Team *** and your biggest enemy.
