You can't encounter Mareanie outside SOS battles and you can't switch to a different species during SOS battles

It can, you just have to make corsola call it. SO basically keep chaining corsola / kill mareanie until you get a shiny. You'll want a speedy pokemon that can quickly kill mareanie before it kills Corsola. I gave up on doing this since I didn't have adamant orbs yet, maybe after the E4 i'll go for my shiny.

Ah, that sucks, shiny magikarp mutilated my attempts at getting a shiny tentacool in AS. At least feebas was near 100% so it was easy to get a shiny milotic.

I hope you have good luck with the cutiefly, I've been thinking of chaining that one since Wimpod is impossible to chain.
