I honestly doubt he'll drop from OU at all. Yeah the loss of the ground immunity sucks, but he can still deal with the most prevalent groundtypes fairy easily and he can also get rid of T-Spikes now, which is huge considering Topikeks is rampant right now.

The reason why Ttar never falls is because no matter what, he's a 600BST with autosand which automatically increases his effective BST to box legend tier. His movepool is giant and he can do everything from being a fast sweeper to a slow supporter or even a trickroom mon (though I THINK Gigalith might be the better TR sand setter now).

Fighting type moves didn't really start shining until gen 4 with Close Combat, Focus Miss and Drain Punch, they peaked with gen 5 but with weather wars and the synergy so many pokemon got from sand as well as that insane special bulk and versatility ttar got made him relevant anyways.
Gen 6 had fairies and Smogonbird to keep fighting types in check and made them far less viable.

I think some of my experienced is skewed by in-game stuff because I used Tyranitar at some point in every gen and it felt like fucking every mon in the game even from shit trainers had either had Focus Blast (which never missed) or Brick Break which disproportionately skewed my experience.

Why is Tyranitar so good? Serious question. Comparing him to say, Metagross. Tyranitar obviously has a better ability and better special bulk, but Metagross has an immunity, 1 4x resist, 8 2x resist, and only 4 weakness (and no 4x weakness). He outspeeds him and has marginally better Attack. He still resists Stealth Rocks.

Does it mainly come down to the ability? In a meta with lots of Drizzle and Drought pokemon does Metagross become better than Tyranitar (or is TTar even better because he turns off their weather)?

SS not being infinite def hurt him a lot, but I don't think GF would nerf the ability anymore than it already is and there's already fairy being prevalent, really strong fighting types, and fucking everything can carry fighting coverage but it's still solid OU.

This is exactly why Gengar is so much worse now. In earlier gens, you'd bring gengar in because you predicted the EQ. You could actually bring it in on things like Lando-T locked into EQ or in on other ground types and then force them out with icy wind or similar.

I think the much higher special defense is what makes the difference. But TTar is also great at shutting down opposing weather users, it can switch in to cancel out sun or rain and tank whatever special attack is incoming thanks to sand. TTar really has to watch out for physical fighting types but that's really it. Metagross seems to get fucked over by a larger amount of mons.

I think Ttar is also more threatening and unpredictable.

When Metagross barely has an ability and T-Tar has the best in the game, yeah, it creates a gap.

Plus T-Tar has superior stats (when factoring in the sp.def boost) and is much more flexible as a result of that and his bonkers movepool.

All of my favorites are UU now; Metagross, Gyarados, Machamp, Heracross, Crobat. I'm thinking Magnezone may fall some time in the near future too. I think God is sending me a sign to play UU.

I certainly wouldn't complain if Metagross got a better ability though, Clear Metal and Light Metal are both not only shit but boring.
