It can definitely do work in OU given its access to Roost, Defog, Spirit Shackle, Baton Pass, Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, and even Low Sweep if Tyranitar finds it so comfortable to switch in on.

If you want to attempt offensive, you have to give it low sweep. Tho I found it underwhelming.

Careful is where decidueye shines. It's not his resistances that make him shine, but rather what he's neutral to. Namely poison, and bug.

I found surprising success with this:
-Shackles
-Roost
-Toxic/U-turn
-Substitute/Defog

Note that PP will be a problem, long term

Dppt was the best meta because it had the most playstyle variety. Including 2 that no longer exist: Scouting (because there was no team preview) and Spin Blocking (Defog)

nah because you will find on average most physical moves have 10~20 higher BP at the same accuracy than special moves.

So 80/100 physical defense is underwhelming
but 80/100 special defence is pretty good.

A difference in 10BP is equal to 300 atk/spatk and 400 atk/spatk

I've seen people run Impish on him. I personally prefer to run Careful and bulk up the HP and SpDef to make him into a sort of specially defensive Pokemon. That way, you can focus on one aspect of his defensive capabilities and know when to swap him out and when he can stay in against certain physical/special oriented attackers.

His trapping side benefit is literally 100% worthless in every circumstance if you've paid attention to the meta at all. It's not Arena Trap, Magnet Pull or Shadow Tag. Trapping attacks hit after the thing you wanted to trap switches. Did you think Mean Look was only unpopular because it doesn't come attached to a low damage attack? I seem to recall Mean Look being pretty viable back in Gen 2. I remember running an Umbreon with Mean Look, Toxic, Moon Light, and Faint Attack with a lot of success.

Movepool doesn't matter, it gets Dragon Pulse and HP Fire which is most of the coverage it wants (except for Ground)

It's fast as fuck and has a 130 BP STAB move that BOOSTS it's Special Attack, it was more than viable in ORAS and likely will be again in SuMo

There's pokemon whose ability already trap others in (Shadow Tag, Arena Trap and Magnet Pull), meaning they don't have to waste a move slot.

Plus Dhelmise literally does the same job as Decidueye but ten times better.

Skill can only get you so far.
Yeah, it's no ledian, but don't act like this is some potentially overlooked gem. The best it can manage is stealing momentum, or a crappy physical sweeper since nasty plot, energy/shadow ball, HP fire, and or roost are all it could run on a special set.

It has a decent learnset, and just enough of the stats to not be a walking dumpster.

CHALK was a Chinese playerbase thing that latter catched up to the rest.

You never payed attention to VGC at all if you don't know how CHALK started, double Genies in Gen5 was way popular on B2W2 when smogon was just theory crafting.

Blame the chinks here, remember that in the early stages Smogon thought Tflame was RU material until we started using the bulky sets and walled all his "counters".

Nope, it revolved around trapping shit and neutral stab wallbreaking. In singles stab wallbreaking and trapping where the freaking metagame, heck we started using focus blast/hydro pump Keldeo and tricks specs Latios near the end of ORAS because we rediscovered how good it was to not have switch ins and destroying the fuck out of Clefable.

VGC was a cluster fuck during all of ORAS though.

Smogon got nothing to do with CHALK, it catched up on its own and its the pinnacle of an unhealthy level of centralization if you let a meta "stabilize" around the concept of people adapting to broken shit due to a "broken checking broken" mentality, the metagame adapted... It adapted into CHALK and severe match up dependency.
