I think that there's a too many cooks type situation over at Gamefreak. Pokemon is, in my eyes, best when it's a near idyllic setting where the only actual bad shit happening is because of villains. With Amie/Refresh, it seems like a huge step in the right direction, but then there's this needlessly morose bullshit thrown in that ruins the mood.

Even when Kirby, the most super saccharine series ever, goes incredibly dark, it has the good insight to be just as enjoyable by making it hype as all hell. Having mega evolutions be soulless, painful, blood covered hate machines, and UBs universe destroying monstrosities doesn't make things hype.

That's like totally your opinion man. In terms of story and sense of exploration, this has been the best Pokemon game. Only game that's beats it solely on exploration is RSE because the technology allowed to make the entire region with transition screens.

I think this is the first game Masuda didn't direct and it shows.
