Why do people keep saying that Lusamine was controlled by the Ultra Beasts into doing what she did?

Playing through the story, she did everything of her own volition, and the part I heard about her being poisoned was only a result of her fusing with the jellybeast, well after she was already batshit.

Is there something I'm missing or am I being memed on?

if they actually followed up in the postgame Lusamines husband went into the other dimension looking for UBs and disappeared. It's assumed that she became obsessed with his work in an attempt to try to find him, then probably fell off the deep end.

Lysandre never really came across as an effective villain to me, with how rushed X&Y's story was.

Lusamine was actually scary. Maybe even scarier than Cyrus, who was also a very effective villain in just how unempathetic he was.

Lusamine did have significantly more success in the sack than Cyrus, though.

Actually, I think that may have just been an incidental result of Lusamine in particular getting infected.

She likely had some success beforehand and got dosed. Hence how she knew enough about nihilego to groom Lillie into looking and acting like one. I haven't got the game. Are UBs evil or just misunderstood creatures? Seems kind of dumb to add non Pokemon Pokemon into the series. Will they be a part of the games' plot going forward do you guys think?

Nihilego toxins removed her inhibitions and conscience, more or less, along with giving positive feedback when she acted on those previously-repressed urges. She was obsessed with the UBs after her husband's disappearance, and even though fusing with Nihilego fucked her up especially, it's likely that she already had some amount of exposure to it. That said, she's not blameless, since it just brought out what was already there and enabled it. But since it also robbed her of the capacity to know she was doing wrong, she's still redeemable.

If this is the case, and it really is him in the flesh, then it's still fairly understandable that Lusamine wouldn't know because she's obsessed herself beyond the point of sanity.

In fact she might have even been told and shown where he is but she just flat out denies it. (And she doesn't use the box system anyway preferring to preserve her collection physically with science and shit. Or maybe she does that to continue the lie to herself?)
She barely even recognises her children anymore.

Lillie's not a trainer, and gladion hasn't even caught enough Pokemon to use the box system so I can see where they would have missed him.

Question is, how come the player doesn't mention the coincidence to them?

The MC for this gen barely says anything outside of the dialogue options. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that in many cases, the dialogue options actually just result in the MC making some face or something that implies to the other person what they wanted to say.

The lack of facial changes this gen were really painful. XY had it too in places, but this game made it extra painful.

UB-01 isn't evil, it's just made of Meth, and uses people it gets addicted to defend it, by enhancing their personality. Lusamine got addicted, and her personality is "protect the cute things, literally nothing else matters and the ends justify the means" so she went full off into the deep end with protecting it and trying to open a wormhole to find more of them and protect ALL of them and live with them forever... which gets her MORE drugged up and shit just goes really bad.
