It's an annoying mechanic when you're just blitzing through a route on stoutland or taurus. Not to mention fearows have a low escape rate and the encounter animation eats up a lot of time when it happens so frequently

Have to agree. After looking through Pokéarth I can'tell find a mandatory route that's worse than this.

Vast Poni Canyon is annoying as fuck when your team is too low-leveled for repels to work though.

What's wrong with Kanto route 13? That's the end of the connection between Fuchsia and Lavender I think?

There aren't really any obnoxious routes in Kanto but I think the one leading from Cereulean to the dark cave/Power Plant is probably my least favorite.

Johto also didn't really have any bad routes. 42 is the connection between Ecruteak and whatever the fuck Pryce's town is called right (Mahogany?). It's pretty comfy. I'd maybe put the connection between Goldenrod and Ecruteak lower. Outside of Sudowoodo it's a really dull route.

Johto is a fantastic overoworld with no bad routes but I chose that one for it put tiny surf spots in between the towns to turn a short walk into one that needs HMs. The Cut tree behind 3 great Apricorns was the icing on the cake

Playing Kanto route 13 in FRLG with its billion trainers and backtracking makes me want to die

Yeah I don't think Kanto has a whole lot of bad routes either to be honest. I have fond memories of the trek from Lavender to Fuchsia and how it changes from a boardwalk to a kind of maze with a bunch of hidden items so I actually like 13. The only thing I really hate in Kanto are routes where you can hop over a ledge and screw yourself over.

I'll agree with this, but it wasn't that bad. I don't mind wild encounters in hopes of finding shinies. My team was even underleveled and Dugtrio were a pain for a little bit. I was still able to gain a lot of exp and/or run away though. It was definitely a bitch trying to navigate, when knowing the code of the stones.

Kanto's real problems are it's one way routes and it having more "the route is 5 steps long" than most other regions. Though Unova suffers from realy short routes too.

Favorite from all of the games period is the entire gauntlet to Snowpoint, it's a fantastic feeling once you actually get there and I love snow.

The entire area between Mauville and Lilycove, especially in the rain.

Nothing has stuck out so far for me yet in Alola, but I've only just gotten to the 3rd island.

I NEVER used flash because it was a shit waste of time so I'd just bumble in the dark until I got out, I more or less have the route memorized but its still annoying and not enjoyable because the screen is pitch black.
