You just have to put the Pokemon in and come back the next day and they're EV trained. It takes longer, but it's zero effort if you don't need a fully trained Pokemon right away. You can also train several at once.

pelago lets you max stats for 18 pokemon within 16 hours. set them up before you go to bed and they'll be done by the time you get home from work the next day

that's not a good argument, that just means 10mins of horde training x 16 is 160mins or 2hrs 40mins. They're right, horde training IS better. But I do like Pelago as a secondary method. You can control EXACTLY how many EVs you want to put in without having to worry about over training for one of those weird EV spread mon.

Fully training a stat in minimum 15 hours is pretty good. I have no power items either which is the only thing that makes chaining bearable.
In regards to beans do you just put in enough to equate to half the time taken to train or something?

In SOS training, you only have to kill 7 called Pokemon to max a stat. Even if it takes a couple minutes longer, the difference is pretty negligible.

this. do a bit reserach. 7 kills is enough to fill a whole stat to max in sun and moon. with the right tools to be honest but that is possible

Come back the next day and a half and it's just under half trained...if you're doing a straight 252/252/4 split. Otherwise you need to use a whole section of the island to train your specific EV combination, and check in when it needs to be changed. Either way, at level 3, it can train a single pokemon to full in minimum 62.5 hours, but you can do it in parallel for up to 18 pokemon, depending on what you need to train.

You can lower evs with some berries. The berry piles renew every day so it shouldn't be hard to get a pretty big library of berries, and the berry growing island in poke pelago can house up to 18 planted berries. There's probably a better way to reset evs but I don't know what those are off the top of my head.

You're gonna have to learn to min-max the menu to squeeze a few more clears out. You'll start to notice when you get a quick glimpse of their fav type, it'll only be specific combos. Like Ghost will either be Ghost, Ghost/Flying, Ghost/Ground, Ghost,/Fire, or Ghost/Fairy. Ghost I hit up a few times to hit Dark, Ghost/Ground and Ghost/Fire I scroll down a few times to hit Water, Ghost/Flying I hit down for Thunder, and Ghost/Fairy I hit up twice for Steel. The only shitty part is the bitch taking forever to reload the plaza.

Yeah, Water/Electric I have to make a mental effort to scroll down 2 more to hit Grass lol. Water/Grass, Dark/Poison, Mono-Poison, Mono-Electric, and Mono-Normal are the ones that tend to slow me down since Fighting/Ground/Flying are all right in the fucking middle of the list.

Friendship Parlor, the various Secret Meals each lower a specific stat's EVs to zero. You can only buy them from the shop if you've beaten the E4 and have a Plaza rank of 30+ though, and from what I can tell by looking at Serebii, either the highest rank (which has all the meals, and the ones for Spd and Spe are exclusive to it) or maybe the whole restaurant altogether is exclusive to Sun, so order it from somebody in the Plaza if you have Moon.

Yeah, that's the only way to grow berries.
But as a fun bonus, since your pokemon are attending to them for you, at level 3 you get the maximum yields as if you were constantly checking on them and watering them.

There is no decent way to farm them. You can either fish all day for a small chance at getting some caps, win a bunch at the Battle Tree and hope you get one as a reward, or you can farm for 30 of the same color shard. After all that, you can grind a Pokemon to level 100 in order to actually use Hyper Training.

The lvl 100 grind is not an issue, Pokepelago does that as well.
If bottle caps were easy to obtain competitive would have been playable without cheating.

Probably a dumb question, but can I just go through the game normally without worrying about EVs and such and then focus on them when I'm finished the main game?

I guess what I'm asking is that are there things I should be doing/collecting during my casual first story play through that would screw me over/help me later?

I should also say I've barely read up on the game yet and just started, so I'm not really sure how the whole EV training/breeding goes this time around, but I loved horde training last gen.

You can't really EV train or get perfect IV's then anyway. It's only useful when playing competitive.

As for end game you could just collect as many items, pokemon as you can so you don't have to go out and get them when it comes to breeding and building trams.
