Haven't played since GSC.

Not sure whether to get one from Black/White (and then Black 2/White 2 later) or X/Y or Sun/Moon.

Sun and Moon nigga, I hadn't played since RSE then picked up pokemon X. That game was straight garbage it held your hand and had annoying as fuck characters. Just picked up Moon though and it replaced GSC as my new favorite.
