the fact that tapu koko seeks out the player at first makes it all even better, seeing as you could say tapu koko pretty much just wanted to battle the protagonist for his skills

Hau really got a good dose of relatability with his "Have I even gotten any better?" and "I can't seem to force myself to smile anymore." dialogue. I found it great how over the course of the game Gladion develops his own parallel growth as Hau fills out the rival role.

I think original Blue was fucking obnoxious in all incarnations, but as he grew up he became a really kickass and interesting character. Like in HG/SS and all of the media now like Generations, SM, etc.

My personal favorite was always Hugh because of how simple his character was. I've never really wanted a serious rival, and as far as I remember, he doesn't cross you that often.

I can see the appeal in most of them though.
