Play gen 5 first, there's more content to be had as its a story that spans from two games. You should definitely play gen 7 afterwards, though, it's incredibly solid in its own right.

SM does everything BW did but better, the only thing of note in BW is the characters and story, which SM easily surpasses.
Also, Battle Tree>>>>>>>>>Battle Subway

If you want to play Gen 5, play B2W2, it's better than both BW and SM by a long shot.
