It's perfectly fine and you have Fightium-Z for a boosted Sky Uppercut. Yeah it would still be great if it got CC, but eh they will give it Superpower and Drain Punch as tutor moves eventually.
What I'm hoping now is they will also give it Shell Smash.

That's true, but we're not talking about Corsola or Bonsly here, Jangmo-o is meant to be a big powerful dragon, and the most powerful evolution line of Alola. Pseudo-legendaries are powerful thematically, so having just this one be consistently disappointing compared to others is disappointing to everybody.
