I live in the Eastern Caribbean but had my 3DS country set to Canada a long time ago because I wasn't able to digitally purchase games otherwise. May be the same for them.

Most south americans put their countries as US, Canada or Mexico so they can actually access the eshop. Nintendo has never brought the shop here.

There's no reason to set our actual region when the eShop is literally barren. We couldn't even redeem games on club nintendo.

Brazillians think Pokemon is a cartoon and those that know the games exist think they are spinoffs and most likely only played Fire Red on an Android emulator while naming their character ASH.
Pokemon GO came around this year and suddenly everyone was a huge Pokemon fan because they saw the cartoon when they were 10. They somehow caught notice of Sun & Moon and went on to flood the internet with requests for ROMs of the game that work on Android because they once played Fire Red on it.

I cannot properly express the cancer that is this country.
