You can't, really. Most reliable way is to get a Parasect with Spore, False Swipe & Worry Seed. False swipe to keep at 1HP, spore to Paralyze, and Worry Seed replaces the target's ability with Insomnia, while also telling you what ability was replaced. If the ability which was replaced wasn't the hidden one, kill it.

Leftovers are a 5% chance on Munchlax; which spawn on Route 1 in some specific grass patches (the area you have to rock smash to get into)

Bring a dead butterfry and someone with Thief and grind it out. Same thing for Black Sludge and Grimers; except do them at the school.

For Sandygast just hit it with a water attack. If Water Compaction doesn't activate, it's got its HA.
For Litwick, just put a sub up and let them attack you. If one hits through it, it's got Infiltrator.

Could someone please explain to me how Synchronise works now? I heard you can synchronise a fainted pokemon's nature as long as it is fainted, at the front of your party and the pokemon you toss in has the synchronise ability.

Haven't been doing SOS stuff but just trying to normally capture pokes and they continue to have the wrong nature.
Is their different rules for SOS or am I just missing something

About to do my first Island Scan. Emboar is available today, right?

How do Island Scans work? Can I scan any QR code and the Pokemon for that island and day will appear, or does it have to be a certain QR code? Can I reset if I want a different nature for the Pokemon, or will I lose the scan? Can I reset if I don't find the Pokemon in the hour? What if I'm not able to reach the area the Pokemon is at yet?

Yes, Emboar is available today.

No, you scan 10 Pokédex QR codes (which you can find online) and then get one Island Scan. You get one scan every two hours and can stock up to 10, so it's effectively one a day unless you're super anal about it. Any ten work.

How the fuck are you supposed to get electric terrain for Raichu at the moment without using Tapu Koko since he'll surely be banned from non legendary matches. And it doesn't seem like there's any pokemon to breed with until bank opens up to teach Pika electric terrain.

Why did everyone say this game was easy?

Just got to the league and I'm 10 levels below the E4.

This is with XP share off and I skipped the desert, golf course and recycling plant, but I have to say S&M are the hardest mainline Pokémon games out there.

Can't imagine Nuzlocking this.

How did everyone else feel?

Why the fuck do they make some Pokes fishing-only AND have a 1% appearance rate? Fishing alone already bumps up the number of attempts ("nothing seems to be biting" or finding an item). It's bullshit.

bubbles, look for the bubbles. That tends to bump up the rate of rarer pokemon up considerably. My only issue is that if you go to the bubbles too fast, it scares away the bubbles. Also it tends to only be one fishing spot per area. Not sure why.

I've been doing the former because then you'd be running around for no reason and it wouldn't be counting the steps toward hatching an egg while you try to collect them.

If you have a Synchronize pokemon at the front (faint or no), anything you fight has a 50% chance of having the Synchronize's nature

I don't think it affects SOS tho, works best for UB's/Tapus

I did it same as you and was 10 levels below too

I think a fair compromise is to keep yourself equal to the wild pokemon around, even if that involves some grinding

I've tried to EV train through SOS chaining multiple times now. I didn't use the EXP share, I've only used the pokemon i wanted to train, I wiped out seven/eight pokemon in a row with the chain... what am I missing? Does the doubling mechanic not actually exist or am I still forgetting a step?

People have been saying you have to beat the Elite 4 again to battle Tapu Koko if you defeat the forced battle after the first Elite Four victory, but I defeated him and then walked right back to the shrine as soon as I had the chance, and he appeared for battle.

So I caught a shiny Pichu and I'm trying to turn into an Alolan Raichu. However it's not evolving into Pikachu at all. The happiness gauge in Pokemon Refresh is at 5 hearts and I've got it equipped with a Soothe Bell but it's not evolving on level up.

Give it a soothe bell, give it a massage, feed it as many happiness berries as you can, then run in circles on tauros until it's happy, that's how I did it, it starts at too high of a level to effectively raise happiness just from level ups unless you're masochistic

Both facilities have all the EV reducing ones, and each facility has three different resetting ones. So you would need both to get all six stat resets.

And yes, they need to be 5 stars to get all the possible meals. You can't upgrade them, you just have to get lucky with Sophocles offering you one, or buy it off a guest.

I'm planning on doing a reset in a month for the sake of my iiving dex. I'm currently breeding and training via Pelago a bunch of level 1 competively trained mons to use in game/the tree once I beat it.

I plan on transferring them once I get to island 2 and gradually phase them into my team as the exp.share gets them up to speed. What's everyone's opinion on exactly how much that's going to break the game? I don't feel at all guilty about it since I beat the game properly already.
