This is such a GameFreak move.
>We justified HMs being TMs in Sun and Moon, even though we didn't have to and no one would have blinked twice if we just changed things without an in-game explanation, so now that we're not in Alola, we have to go back to HMs!

You see, each game is its own unique thing, each region has its own quirks and themes that drive our development.

The Alolan people are very connected with Pokemon life. This theme we explore in Sun & Moon allowed us to develop ideas such as the PokeRide, showing a deeper connection between Alolan trainers and their Pokemon than other regions.

We like to look at each new game as a completely new project, we start from scratch with a certain theme and then add what feels in line with that theme over the course of development. Thank you for reading.
