>>30276922Froakie wasn't the most popular popular in Amie. Greninja was by a wide margin. The thing in Rowlett's favor is that most people prefer birds to frogs.
If you payed attention to the reveal of the X/Y starters, you'd know that Froakie was one that many people were either indifferent about or had a certain degree of dislike, mostly because, well, it's a frog, and frogs are "icky". Things changed when the second evos were revealed though. Chespin was out of the equation; Braixen was a bit too furbaity for many that wanted it to stay quadrupedal; But Frogadier looked slick enough to be the better option. And then Greninja himself was revealed and everyone and their mother chose Froakie in the most impressively one-sided starter pick since Charizard, with around 62% of people choosing him (Based on Facebook, 4Chan and Twitter polls). The thing is, that momentum was generated sheerly by Greninja. Me and most of my friends hate Frogs themselves, but we all either like or flat out love the guy.
But the Rowlett line has the advantage of:
1) Being a bird, ergo, being more instantly likeable
and
2)Base stage having a simpler, emoji-like structure
Rowlett has the animal advantage, but to put an example, the % of Rowlett picks isn't as much of a landslide as Greninja was, probably because the other two starters didn't seem a bit disappointing to people compared to Chesnaught and Delphox. That being said, i do know that Rowlett will be a big thing in terms of starters. Maybe it'll become the most popular Grass starter. But as it stands, i seriously doubt it will get to Charizard/Greninja levels of popularity.
