Am I missing something about this guy's unique move? It only has 10 more base power than Leech Life or X-Scissor, has none of the side effects of those two moves, and can only be used the first turn. Doesn't seem very good to me.

+2 Priority. It's a Bug Fake Out with higher Power and no Flinch. Or a Bug Extremespeed with more Power and can only be used on the first turn.

The idea is that you use it, maybe take some damage and then switch out thanks to its ability, making it like a pseudo U-turn of sorts as well.

If it really was like the dumbasses said it was during the early leak, and flinched opponents then it might have been useful.
Also if its attack and defense were swapped and it had almost any other ability the Pokemon itself might have been useful.
This thing has a god tier design and could have been great. Gamefreak hates its own fans

Where does it say it's priority? I don't see it in the description. Even if it is, I don't see how that compensates for the fact that it can only be used on the first turn you are out.

It's damn good already. With those stats, all it would really need to do is use FI, and either take enough damage to switch out (And do the same shit again later), or be able to pick off what's left with Aqua jet or sucker punch. Shit, only thing I could recommend is giving its HP a little boost to go with its already decent defense stats.

Golisopod is slow as fuck, and by the time you get to use your vanilla non-secondary effect X-scissor your opponent gets a hit, the Emergency Exit triggers, and you just did nothing.
Having a base 90 priority STAB move is huge and it's the only reason Golisopod may be a viable revenge killer.

You're trying to use it like Conk instead of taking advantage of more it can do instead of just sweeping late game. Its ability makes longer fights a pain unless its your last mon, and its going to be weakened by then. It doesn't have the health to just keep leeching and aqua jetting.

It can punch more holes with that move and possibly score some early aqua jet or sucker punch kills before it even gets touched and forced out, and when it does you can do it all over again.

Holy shit can you fuck off? Poison is literally one of the worst offensive types. First Impression is amazing because it allows Golisopod to get around its slow speed and revenge kill. It's reusable as well because EE will eject you when you drop below 50% HP.

Smogon and competitive battling is far from perfect and has its own slew of issues but the backlash against it is saddening
