Is heavy slam based purely on weight alone or does attack play apart in the damage calc also? I noticed on the damage clacs it went up with more attack but I'm not sure if that is just a bug.

No, belly drum sets are not better now. If your opponent gets you down to 25% without killing you then he's bad. In a competitive battle you will never get to use those gay berries to their full effect because relying on going below 25% on an important pokemon is a fucking retarded thing to do.

I just want a simple team that pretty much just attacks eveyr turn, doesn't require a gay gimmick shitmon opening. Just a simple, honest team that outplays opponents and throws damage around. At most, uses dragon dance once or tailwind sometimes.

Which pokemon should I look at? And should I focus on doing single target damage or spread damage? I'm new to doubles so I'm unsure.

Ok so kind o fjust like a high momentum team in singles. I don't want hyper offense, but I think balanced offense or bulky offense would be cool.

However, how do I deal with enemy shitmon gimmick openings? Just attacking the smeargle doesn't work, and taunting the smeargle doesn't work either because it's his field partner that's setting up shit.

I've never built a VGC team before, or even a Doubles team, but I'm planning on trying it out this gen, and I'm trying to think of some cool strategies that might work. I don't want to do a clichéd team with just a Tapu, an Ultra Beast, a Pelipper/Torkoal, and "pick 3 of these 10."

One weird idea I had was Competitive Milotic + something with Bulldoze, I was thinking maybe a mixed Kommo-o could be a good partner. So, basically, my Milotic would be:

Milotic @ Waterium Z
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 HP / 4 Def
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Protect

The basic idea being, a faster Pokémon, such as Kommo-o, would use Bulldoze. If my understanding of doubles is right, the damage would be weaker than usual because it hits multiple targets, right? That on top of the fact that it's only 60 BP, has no STAB, and that Milotic is fairly bulky. Milotic's speed is lowered, its SpA is doubled, and when its turn comes it uses Z-Hydro Pump for huge damage turn 1. The surviving enemy Pokémon would be slower for the picking, Milotic can use Recover if it can afford to, or it can Protect while I switch out to something like Ribombee that can heal it.

Just a weird idea I had today. Be honest, is it just terrible?

It's a trap when you're new to doubles to try and find out "epic combos" and shit. Just play normally with strong pokemon. focus on synergy between rather than gimmicks between.

so what's stopping people from running Tapu Fini against this and Calm Mind boosting twice, or even running their own Smeargle with Instruct alongside it and Calm Mind boosting 4 times?

Adamant isnt worth it since it'll make you slower than tapu lele and guarantees you lose the garchomp mirror. I haven't tried out rocky helmet, but I guess that could work in certain situations. I personally prefer Groundium-Z since it lets me use a ground attack without forcing a ground-weak teammate to protect or switch.
