Festival Plaza is the worst thing about this game.

Anything else can be forgiven in time, but making the entire online infrastructure this disfunctional is what will actually KILL the fucking game for good. No one wants to bother, finding 6v6 matches now that passerbies are gone is impossible, literally everyone is moving to Showdown for good now.

Literally thousands of people played XY/ORAS solely to 6v6 on the PSS, that's what made them stick around myself included, I could always find a match all throughout the lifespan of gen 6.

Now they took even that way. What now, force VGC down my throat or grind the battle tree bullshit? That's the two options when it comes to any lasting replay value at all. Nah thanks, I'll play Showdown. Didn't want to, but I have to because GF just loves taking out perfectly good features from their games for no reason.
And god help those who actually played triples or rotations, they're probably ten times more pissed than I am.

I signed up for PGL back with BW1 even though I never really made use of Game Sync and did the same with BW2 and XY, but then with ORAS I realized I had a fake birthdate because you had to make a parent account and link to it or some shit if you were under 18 back when BW1 was a thing and they had no way to change it so I stopped bothering with it because it triggered me.

As for SM yeah Festival Plaza is a shitfuck, slapped Join Avenue and PSS together with none of the good aspects of either.

Bringing back the Join Avenue was a good idea, making it replace the PSS was not.

Putting a loading screen between offline and online might seem small, but it breaks all functionality the PSS had, including the feeling of playing while connected to other people, that's entirely gone.

you have to go into the castle in festival plaza and then go to the computer (which looks exactly like every other computer in the game so how would you ever know it was different) then use the code on the computer to link your game save to an account that you have to make on the pokemon website

And having your pokemon travel with you to every new game is supposed to be one of the biggest selling points of the series. Going back to ORAS and BW2.

Let's assume SM has sold 10 million copies(it's probably less than half of that so far).

Let's assume 50% of players sign up on the PGL and participate(it's probably closer to 5%)
That's 5 million players who must catch 20 pokemon total.

So let's go with a realistic outcome. 4 million copies, that's 200000 participants, 500 pokemon per player.
