I thought the Po Town hideout was intended to be an eighth "trial" of sorts. It acted more like a regular gym. Beat up Gym Trainers (Skull Grunts), solve a puzzle (the passwords), and battle the Gym Leader (Guzma). You even get the Buginium Z afterwards.

Half of the point is how subtle it is. Team Flare literally controls the news and has an agent in the E4. This shit should've been more important than it was, but Flare ended up being the Joke team.

I didn't mind them as the Joke Team so much because I like bad jokes, but it still is a bit of a letdown.
