And he's not really an asshole Rival, he's just a lone wolf who just happens to team up with you because it coincides with his goals. He outright dislikes you sure, but by the end he says while you're not exactly friends, you're not enemies anymore. A welcome change after all the super friendly best friend Rivals they've had lately.

Even then, Hau's got that role and he's... harmless enough. He even has a few good lines like against Faba.

I actually really liked Hau, since he didn't TRY to be your Rival. He just wanted to be your buddy who also was doing his own island trials. And he gets more serious in the end.

And yeah, that line against Faba was awesome. I liked the exchanges between him and Gladion aswell. Anime as fuck, having the happy go lucky guy and the edgy looking chuuniboy bounce off eachother.

On top of that, Gladion kind of has that thing going where he's stoic but when he cares about something or someone, it runs deep. Friendship evos make sense for him, considering how he absolutely had to save Null, and he flew into a rage when Lilie was kidnapped. He's not a bad kid, he's just edgy to protect himself from people like Lusamine and the Skull grunts.

The reality is that since Guzma works for Lusamine and Gladion works for Guzma, it's likely that Guzma keeps Gladion busy and uninformed about things so that Gladion has less of a chance of getting back at Lusamine and possibly saving Lillie

He makes 10 seconds not happen but the results remain except those pertaining to him. So if you were to both stab each other he'd make that time not happen so you'd go right from running at him with a knife to being on the floor bleeding with no time in between and he'd be perfectly fine. Also he can see 10 seconds into the future. That's literally it.
