DP was a mess.
Volkner has only 3 Electric types.
Candice uses a Medicham.

And even in Platinum Bug Expert Aaron's ace is a not-Bug type.

don't forget the whole steel typ gym tho. Look at the trainers: 3 Steelix, 6 Onix, 1 Skorupi and 1 Azumarill

I understand why people hate this, but I thought it was an interesting way to switch things up and prevent the player from just sweeping with one super effective move.
