Yeah, but that'd be weird if your character was stopped every so often for no apparent reason, listened to a bunch of empty text boxes, had a battle with nobody, and kept going. Honestly, those scenes make more sense with Hau in them.

Alola isn't Hawaii, sure it's based off Hawaii but that doesn't require you to match the number of shitskins in your fictional setting.

And if you're going to argue that they're just trying to be "realistic" in their depiction of a Hawaii-like region, that just brings up the question of why they chose to base it off of Hawaii to begin with.
