But he has countless concersations outside of that. His whole personality is not taking battling or other matters very seriously, as a foil for Gladion. He's about the fun of the experience, a trait that's similar to Hala's personality. Regardless, he isn't one dimensional: he took Lillie's leaving for Kanto harder than anyone, and wouldn't even smile or say goodbye. It shows he's only light-hearted up to a point.
