Great in ORAS. Criminally underdeveloped in RSE.

Gladion is a perfect rival. Better than N, even. He's dynamic like Silver, but isn't just being a dick for the sake of being a dick from the get-go. You can empathize with me. And he also has a strong team, unlike Silver.

Blue is not a perfect rival. One-note as fuck. Yes, you want to beat him, and, yes, he can be hard to beat, but he's horrible as a character up until GSC.

Also, you're being way too autistic with your definition of rival. A rival is meant to be someone who challenges you repeatedly throughout your journey, someone who serves as a benchmark for growth and who propels you to become stronger througj competition. You also typically don't agree on at least one major point. In that sens, Gladion, N, and Wally are rivals moreso than Shauna, May, or Bianca.

At the beginning his edge and THE WEAK SHOULD FEAR THE STRONG shit was cool, but as the game progresses it's like he keeps trying to out-edge himself and calling everyone weak trash despite losing every single time. At least until he suddenly notices that he was the weak one all along because he didn't believe in the power of FRIENDSHIP.

Blue was cool. When he lost he was smug, but it made sense because he acted just like a 2cool4you asshole.

Actually even Cheren was better as a "jerk" rival. Silver just made no sense.

Yes he does? And you battle him four times throughout the story, team up with him, battle him again in postgame, and he gives you one of the Type: Null. He's a great rival and a useful character.
