i looked through the stats of the dex and actually couldnt stop laughing by the time i was halfway through, the speed stats were abysmal. it's even better when pokemon like torracat give the impression that its going to be a fast line only to change its mind in the final stage

It literally is. In a meta where everything can 2HKO everything else, whoever moves first gets the killing blow. Slow pokemon take hits they can't afford to take. Speed is EVERYTHING.
