Blue was an asshole who was notorious for catching you off guard, and talking shit even when he lost. Silver was also a dick, but he at least had some development and ended up being an okay dude despite being a thief.
The rivals these days are just friends who battle you occasionally. To me, a rival always makes me go "Oh, here THIS asshole again...".
