I like Rowlet, but I'm disappointed that its Grass typing isn't used anywhere other than its bow tie.

There are two aspects to design: concept and execution.

Jynx has an interesting concept but a bad design. It's ugly to hell and back, doesn't reflect the ice-type at all, even borderline racist lmao

Rockruff line has a rather boring concept and a shitty exectution. Rockruff is cute and I understand they wanted to make a "werewolf uses the moon and the moon is a giant rock" connection but there's nothing in the design to indicate that besides the fact that Lycanroc-Midnight is a werewolf.

Onix and Geodude have bland concepts but excellent executions. It's kinda hard to fuck up rocls with eyes.

Ghost typing has normal/fighting pass through it. In earlier gens they've always been actual ghosts or spirits.

For your average mysticism, Dark and Psychic have existed. You want something dabbling in mysticism like Marowak? Psychic type makes more sense, it was originally the main way to even handle ghosts.

Jynx is a modern Yama-uba.

Yama-uba was an attractive woman (but also sometimes an old crone) that lures away travellers in the mountains (hence the Ice type) and eats them.

Ganguro also has a sub-culture within it called Yamanba (another name for Yama-uba), but that's more recent than Pokemon and is probably a coincidence. But Ganguro as a whole consists of young women in their 20s with fake tans and bleached blonde hair, and way, way too much makeup. And that's Jynx all over.

They realized that slapping generic as fuck faces onto literal rocks was a stupid fucking basis for design.

Geodude line = disorganized garbage. Geodude somehow has flesh within it's mouth despite being a floating head with arms. Becomes a bigger floating head with arms and legs, then becomes some sort of rocky shelled reptile. Golem was clearly supposed to be part of some other evolutionary line.

Roggenrola into Gigalith is the gen 5 replacement lineage and does the "straight up rocks" theme far more justice.

No shit, but the biome is still without question what you would classify as ICY. Any ICE-type living in an ICY biome needs no further explanation as to its typing. You don't get animals with a design you could potentially adapt into an Ice-type anywhere outside of these places; it's the sole substantiation for the type in the fucking first place
