Being apathetic isn't really enough to commit suicide, you have to be in a profoundly selfish state of mind to work yourself up to it. You have to minimise and disregard the thoughts, opinions, needs and feelings of everybody else in your life and completely prioritise your own self-centred want to die over the top of it. As checked out as Nanu is, I don't think he would consider his friends, Pokemon, community, and police/kahuna duties to be worth nothing in order to abandon them forever.
