I am purely talking about design. I think it's cute and would want one as a buddy now but I thought it was lazy and ugly at first. It is damn strong though, but the shift happened before it was on my team (otherwise it wouldn't have gotten on my team in the first place).

Exactly the same, OP. I think for me it was just seeing him in action and getting to actually use one changed my mind.

Wasn't hype at all when he was revealed. Now he's probably my favorite G7 mon.

This. I caught Stufful at Route 8 to get the pokedex entry for Aether foundation, since I really didn't like Crabcrawler's line, my current fighting type, I decided to give it a try.

Plus, Stufful's Brutal Swing animation just won me over, how he stubles and falls on its belly.

Bewear is bro-tier mon now.

what i do, and this sweeps a lot of teams in battle tree, is this:
@leftovers
adamant
-hammer arm
-payback
-thunder punch
-bulk up
i might try ice punch too, but basically you can set up on anything that can't kill you, and thats a lot of things with the pitiful damage most physical attacks will do to you, all healed by left overs, and then you can just go to town, assuming your massive attack won't 1 hit ko stuff without setting up with hammer arm or thunder punch for water/flying types.
its fun. i've literally been paralyzed and confused, my last mon versus a full team of 3, and i've managed to set up enough to sweep their entire team even through paralysis and confusion.
