My theory is that UBs are regular pokemon, and the reason they're so strong to us is that only the strongest of them can survive for long in our dimension/make the crossing.

Nihilego is like, their zubat cave trash but we only see the ones that can literally survive existing in a dimension hostile to them.

The UBs are from an alternate dimension where Pokémon and humans are switched. UB01 is literally the entity from that universe that corresponds to the universe's Lillie. That's why they all look like game characters.

They're so powerful because they absorb the excess energy from the rift when reality breaks to let them in
It's also the same energy that lets totem pokemon power up
